Liverpool are in no danger of falling foul of any PSR rules, meaning they can sell players on their own terms.

The Reds have always been shrewd negotiators and seem to make decent amounts of profit on players that not many thought they could.

It was something Michael Edwards installed and now the baton has been safely passed onto Richard Hughes, and Liverpool could make some good money from sales this summer.

Darwin Nunez is one for the chopping block and his future at Anfield is far from certain, although all the signs point at a departure.

After three lacklustre seasons, both parties look ready to call it quits, with the Uruguayan not short of potential suitors, suggesting Liverpool could get more than a reasonable fee for him.

Napoli are the club most advanced in negotiations and Nunez has given them the green light to make the move, however the Reds’ demands are putting the Serie A champions off and they have now given Liverpool a strict deadline to reduce them.

Liverpool signed Nunez for £85m, which is their club-record fee for a player, meaning they will try and squeeze as much money out of clubs as possible to avoid making too much of a loss.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Reds are now holding out for around €60m (£51.2m), a fee that Napoli feel is far too high.

Nunez’s wages are also a slight problem for the Naples club as they have slight financial problems, meaning as things stand, this deal appears to be completely unattainable for them.

The Italian outlet goes on to say that Napoli have set a 48 hour deadline to try and resolve this issue as they are still desperate for the 26-year-old, but they would need Liverpool to significantly lower their valuation.

If not, the Serie A champions will move onto more budget options, with Lorenzo Luca from Udinese next on their list, with that deal costing just €30m, (£25.7m).

However, due to the demand for his signature, Liverpool are not expected to drop their asking price just yet, especially as Saudi clubs remain interested.

Getting the right fee for a player is one thing, but realising when they just need to cut their losses is another, and this might be one of those situations.

Not many teams will pay Liverpool’s £51.2m asking price and if they do, they would probably be considered silly based on his record on Merseyside.

The Reds will also want to sell him first before moving onto any other striker targets, meaning that their stubbornness could come at a great cost.

Therefore, slightly lowering the price early could prove beneficial in the long run to free up space and cash so they can make their move for a big target, with this likely to be a player like Hugo Ekitike.
